Celeste was founded in 2020 by Janik Jayasuriya as a direct response to the community's need for reliable access to essential goods during the Covid-19 pandemic. Operating initially as a grocery delivery service, the platform grew rapidly expanding its product range, fulfilment capacity, and delivery network to become a fully operational on demand online supermarket serving customers across Colombo and beyond.
Recognised by the World Bank for its entrepreneurial response during an unprecedented period, Celeste has since fulfilled over two million orders for more than 100,000 customers building its growth on a straightforward and consistently delivered value proposition supermarket quality products, at supermarket prices, delivered to your door in under 30 minutes, any time of the day or night.
The platform operates through its own digital storefront at celeste.lk, as well as through established quick commerce aggregators UberEats and PickMe Market maximising accessibility for customers regardless of their preferred ordering channel. With locations in Colombo 06, Attidiya, and Ethul Kotte, Celeste maintains the operational infrastructure required to fulfil its delivery commitment consistently and at scale.
